The Swine Flu has been all over the news lately and it seems like no one is safe from its porky grasp. It is with a heavy heart that I report to you that our beloved World of Warcraft has even been infected with this highly contagious podiatrically spread disease.
Poor citizens all over Azeroth are falling ill, but don't take my word for it. Here's a snapshot of WoWDB.com which has indexed the devious spell that will surely adapt to only kill Night Elf characters (sorry got killed last night 3x by a NE).
Here's a description of the Swine Flu spell from WoWDB.com:

Professions in World of Warcraft can be a very fun and profitable aspect of the game. They can help you bring in hundreds of gold a day! A successful gamer can often turn their profession into a practical virtual business and become an integral part in the game world’s economy, in effect building a brand name in the virtual world.

There are several professions to choose from, each of which offers their own individual benefits.

For example Tailoring can produce much sought after cloth upgrades. They are always players in the game advertising for a tailor. However one of the biggest money makers for a tailor is an essential item for every character in the game. Bags! A player can’t carry their loot without a bag to put it in. With each player having four additional bag slots, that means that each player is a potential customer four times over! In addition to that, a bag can bring in, depending on its size, anywhere from 3g (3 gold) for the smallest up to 450g (450 gold) for the largest!

Another popular profession is Blacksmithing. Blacksmithing can produce various weapons and armor. These, in later stages of the game, become some of the most powerful currently in the game! Furthermore later in game as your skill level increase you can choose to specialize into one of two fields. These are Weaponsmith and Armorsmith. Each of these able to produce incredible items that are well sought after, and well paid for!

A profession that everyone from the lowest to highest level players wants to do business with is an Enchanter! Enchanting can offer two avenues of high income in the game. The first is the obvious, selling of enchants to players. These enchants offer stat-increasing benefits to player items and clothing. No matter what the level of the player, they are always seeking an enchanter, and are often willing to pay good money for the service! A second, and often overlooked money making side to enchanting is Disenchanting. This allows an enchanter to destroy an enchanted item and gather enchanting materials from it. Often these materials are often worth more than the original item, and without these materials an enchanter can’t perform enchants! So a smart enchanter can disenchant and sell the materials in the auction house for huge profits!Save WoW Gold

One often overlooked profession is Engineering. It offers a wide variety of gadgets and items that can add significant benefits to players! These can be rifle scopes, field repair bots, bombs, training dummies, to even jumper cables that can be used to revive dead players! There is a whole slew of great things available to a Engineer to use of sell! Like Blacksmithing there are two specializations available in the Engineering field. These are Gnome Engineering and Goblin Engineering, each of these offering field specific items that are in great demand.

Alchemy can also be a great money maker! There are always players in need of special potions. These potions range from healing and mana restoring potions to specialized potions such as fire resistance and detect undead. There are also potions that offer special stat enhancing benefits to players. Many of the potions you produce will be in demand in the auction house.

A profession that was recently introduced in the game in Jewelcrafting. Jewelcrafting produces jewels which can be socketed in armor to add special stats to the armor. These jewels can have a wide variety of effects. These jewels can also go for a large sum on gold in the auction house. A friend of mine routinely sells her jewels for 50 gold a piece!

Leatherworking is similar to tailoring in some regards. It produces leather armor items that can be worn by certain classes in the game. Leatherworkers can also produce special armor add-ons to increase the armor rating of items. Like other professions there are specializations in this profession. These are Elemental Leatherworking, Dragonscale Leatherworking, and Tribal Leatherworking. Each of these specializations offer benefits to specific classes in the game ranging from minor melee class, to spell casting classes. Anyone of these items will bring in a nice profit in the auction house!

Other big-money producing professions are the gathering professions. These are Skinning, Herbalism, and Mining. Each of these gathering skills fills a niche in the in-game economy by providing the essential ingredients for other professions. Professions that depend on these skills for materials are Alchemy, which depends on Herbalism; Leatherworking, which depends on Skinning; and Blacksmithing, Engineering, and Jewelcrafting which depends on Mining. Our first wave of Dragonica Online keys went so fast we have been given another 1000 sets of beta/gift key sets for our users!

I told this story to a new friend working community for an Asian free to play, expecting shock and awe. She said with a gasp, “Someone actually said the n-word in open chat and thought he’d get away with it?”

No, I didn’t check her driver’s license to see if she was born yesterday, but I wanted to.

Finally, another friend sent me a paraphrased copy of a customer service ticket that had passed through his team. It said, basically, that the customer didn’t need a response or restitution for a bug, because he couldn’t care less about a make-believe item. He just wanted to report the bug.

MMORPG.com recently had the opportunity to sit down with Funcom's Craig Morrison to talk about the launch of the most recent update to their flagship game, Age of Conan.
Quote:
MMORPG.com:

How was 1.5 received by the game's community when it finally launched?

Craig Morrison:

I think it has gone very well all things considered. Most players seem to appreciate the new build of the items and that they can now easily see how the items tie into their character. Likewise I think the new content has been very well received ad people are really enjoying the experience in Tarantia Commons, and the guild changes have also been welcomed.

Of course there are some things that need to be addressed, as we knew there would be, and, as we knew it would be, it is in the class balance area that most of the feedback lies...and of course in that area the feedback is never anything short of vocal!

We had always known, and been quite upfront with the community in advance, that there would be some things we had to address after the update was released to the live environment. With something on this scale we knew that there would be elements that would require additional tweaking and adjusting and were prepared for that. As we also expected the greatest challenge there is in the class balance.

The follow-up to the update is very important so we can adjust the areas of the balance that weren't quite right 'out of the gate' as it were. That is what we are already working on now, I think with the new systems we didn't quite get the relative strength of the spell using classes against the melee damage in PVP. That's the main area where the feedback is very vocal, and rightly so, as that area is the part that does still need further adjustment.

I think in PVE things have come together quite nicely by and large and there is less to tweak there, which is encouraging, we do know though that we have to make the adjustments for PVP promptly and properly so that we ensure the PVP game-play is also as fun.

There are also a couple of the raids that are not quite there yet in terms of having the correct difficulty and we will need to tone them down a notch (although several guilds have already surprised even us and defeated those encounters with a dedicated effort even before we tone them down. They still need adjusting of course, but there were some mighty efforts by those involved in those kills!)

Death Strike is a bit of a strange skill in the Death Knight arsenal. Leveling, you use it in place of Scourge Strike/Obliterate when you need healing. In a raid, likewise, although you may be significantly less likely to need healing. In patch 3.1 this changed a bit, with Death Strike becoming the default UF ability for Blood builds, whether or not they needed healing at the time.WOW Guide
However, this beefed-up Death Strike for Blood meant that Blood players were getting huge heals from DS without having to pay a damage penalty, which was an issue both in PvP and, apparently, while tanking. So after a brief period of being hotfixed to provide an unspecified amount less healing, DS now heals for a flat 5% of the DK's health per disease on the target, up to a maximum of 15%. The amount healed is no longer based on how much damage Death Strike does.

Among other things, this means Unholy DKs, with their third disease, will actually get more healing from DS than Blood DKs who have talents to boost DS's damage. I'm not sure this is a problem, especially given Blood's other health-generating abilities, but it does feel slightly strange. I haven't played Blood since early leveling, though - do current Blood players have any opinions on the change?World of Warcraft news

I played several trials with my brother (about 8x as i remember), bought the full version and played for 1 month (it was also after my boyfriend and i broke up after 3 years).
2 days after my subscription ended (lvl 20 at the time with my main char), i had my final exam in school. I passed it and partied and lived for the next few months without thinking of WOW.
after I moved out from my parents apartment, I often felt incredibly lonely and because I don't live in the inner city, most of my friends don't want to visit me... they would rather visit someone else and ask me to come too.. it is indeed very sad..WOW Guide
after 1 month alone in my apartment I started to play WOW again.. after nearly 4 months of not playing I started again and lvld my main char to 30, then to 45 in 1 month.
I bought myself and my brother each a prepaid card for 2 months. We played, had fun, and I helped him to lvl his main char, we tried the BC expansion (didn't buy it though), we played on private servers too (just to test lvl 80 chars and WOTLK).
then, 2 months ago, I quit (when i reached lvl 60 with my main char) because I knew I was addicted, I had neglected my real life and my other hobbies, also I rarely got out to party with my friends.
I also had to concentrate on my studying at university.
Now that I know I want to change to another university and I have even more free time, I often feel the urge to play again..
My boyfriend isn't really able to help me because he never had an addiction like that and he doesn't know what to do.
Neither do I.

F2P MMOs are all the rage, while subscription games appear to have fallen on tough times. Dana thinks he knows why and it has nothing to do with how people pay for them. It's all about accessibility in this week's edition of Dana Massey Asks "Why Not?"
Quote:
Ask yourself this: What do World of Warcraft and virtually every F2P game have in common? And what do Age of Conan, Warhammer Online and others have in common?

Many people say Funcom and Mythic copied WoW, but if they did, they forgot to rip off the single most important thing. Blizzard even published that top secret design document on bottom of the box.

It was the system requirements.

This is what F2P games and WoW share the most. Forget design, forget art style. They can all be run by a wad of chewing gum and a rubber band.

MMORPG.com's Carolyn Koh reviews yet another MMO for kids this week, taking a look at Pixie Hollow, Disney Interactive's Fairy MMO.
Quote:

I was tempted to subtitle this review with a tongue-in-cheek, "Camping the rare blueberry spawn," but refrained. That would neither have been fair nor accurate of this game. I shall explain as I get into the quests section but first, let's talk about the game itself.

Pixie Hollow Online by Disney Interactive is based on the Disney Fairies franchise, solidly driven by the main fairy herself, Tinkerbell. You register an account, create a fairy, selecting a fairy talent such as Water, Garden, Light and Tinker, and customize it by selecting faces, hair colors clothing and accessories, such necklace and bracelet. Each talent has a color theme and talents are a personal flavor rather than imparting any stats or skills. You select wings, pose your fairy, and away you fly into lush landscapes accompanied by orchestral music, the ambient sounds of the area you are flying around in, such as birdsong and bullfrogs and the shimmer of bells and trail of lights as you fly. Just like Tink.

WICKED INTERACTIVE'S PRISTON TALE KICKS OFF THE SUMMER WITH A FULL
MONTH OF SPECIAL EVENTS

The Summer Events Start Off With Free Fireworks Beginning July 1st at http://pt1.subagames.com/

Toronto, CANADA-June 30, 2009-- Wicked Interactive (www.wickedinteractiveltd.com), a leading North American MMO publisher, today announced that it will launch a series of summer events for Yedang Online's popular MMORPG, Priston Tale. Players of Priston Tale can participate in the Summer Events beginning July 1st by going to http://pt1.subagames.com.

The Summer Events will consist of seven unique events during the month of July. Each of the events will begin on each Tuesday in July and will last for two weeks each. Priston Tale players will also receive increased experience rates throughout the month of July.

"We are excited to launch the Priston Tale Summer Events," said Garvin Yeung, CEO of Wicked Interactive. "We hope that our players will enjoy and take advantage of the free fireworks and other great events we have lined up while they enjoy their summer playing Priston Tale."

Event #1: Free Fireworks
The Summer Events will kick off by lighting up the night skies with free fireworks for all players of Priston Tale beginning July 1st to celebrate Canada Day, Independence Day in the U.S. and the beginning of summer.

Event #2: "Wanted": Morif
Once the best alchemist in the known world, Morif is now a wanted criminal. Morif turned his back on humankind in search of adventure but kept the secret of perfect item aging to himself. The nations of Priston viewed this as an act of ridicule and have ordered a warrant for the capture of Morif - dead or alive. Players can hunt down Morif and be rewarded with Sheltom forces and Sheltoms (which are used for upgrading weapons and skills).

Event #3: Nine and Tail Amulet
Priston Tale players are sent on a quest to help Praya, an assassin from a distant land. They need to find a pair of Amulets: the Nine Amulet and the Tail Amulet. When combined together, the Amulets form the seal of the love Praya once shared with the monster, Ninefox.
Generous rewards are offered in exchange for these valuables.

Event #4: Summer Ball Sports
The monsters are out to play - sports, that is! Hunt monsters from all over Priston Land to steal their ball. New items will include Beach Balls, Soccer Balls, Volleyballs and more. Players can activate these items to reveal their true worth.

Event #5: Mini Monsters
Miniature versions of monsters will be appearing at select areas of the Priston world!

Event #6: Summer Experience
Experience needed to level up characters will be increased by 50% on the weekends beginning July 3rd and again on July 18th. This will be followed by a month long Summer Experience Event starting again on July 28th and moving into August. Players are invited to take this chance to join the highest ranks of Priston Tale society!

Event #7: Ice Cream
After all, you can't truly enjoy summer without ice cream!

Numerous upgrades have been made to the battlefield system in GodsWar Online. With new methods to earn points, and three types of rewards, including exp, talent points, and reputation, the battlefields should be seeing a definite increase in activity.
Quote:
GodsWar Online: Battlefield System Upgraded

Stirring PvP, fabulous rewards, glory beyond the ken of the average mortal: all of these can be found in the Battlefields of IGG’s GodsWar Online. Improving upon the old system, the new Battlefields offer three main features outlined below to help you achieve victory and show off your combat prowess.

Four Methods to Earn Points

The faction that earns the most points will be proclaimed the winner, thus it is crucial to master all four methods: kill opposing players, kill monsters, kill bosses, and exchange items. Various monsters are distributed across the Battlefield, and they are not so easy to defeat.

Take Advantage of Items

Monsters are likely to drop Life Essence when they are attacked. If you make full use of the item, you will reap great benefits. Players can exchange Life Essence for Holy Water, which can be turned in for points at the altar. Life Essence can also be exchanged for a strong fighting buff, which will help players snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Three Types of Rewards

There is no joy greater than victory over your enemies. Battlefield winners will earn Experience, Talent Points, and Reputation. Exp will help in leveling, Talent Points will improve your skill, and Reputation can be exchanged for valuable E-Gold. All three will greatly aid your character’s development.

Forewarned is forearmed. Take this knowledge and use it to prove your mettle on the Battlefields, and perhaps even the gods will one day fear your name.

MMORPG.com Jade Dynasty Correspondent Olorunsegun Adewumi writes this look at the Modo class in the kung-fu MMORPG Jade Dynasty.
Quote:

I started playing Jade Dynasty on a bit of a whim. See I'd been playing every single MMO beta I could get my hands on, but I was finding myself bored out of my mind. Yeah I know it's a bit geeky but I want to have fun playing games. All the technical stuff bores the living daylights out of me. I had just stopped playing WoW again in February and before then I had played a year long stint in FFXI, so I was looking for something solid for the long term. I had played a little Perfect World International and I'd played the Beta of Ether Saga but they didn't really click with me. After playing something close to 30 betas I figured I'd see if Jade felt right for me.

In their most recent MMORPG.com blog update, the team from Wonderking takes a look back at the game's launch and how it was accomplished.
Quote:
When we were initially launching WonderKing (OBT) back in February of 2007, we wanted to use an unorthodox approach. Without any breaks between the phases, we launched CBT then OBT– in that particular order. We had that much confidence in the game. We definitely wanted to make an impactful first impression when launching the game in Korea, so we decided to direct our focus on game management. Among the essential aspects of game management, evaluating a user’s immediate reaction to the game was deemed a fairly important aspect. Therefore, for the well-being of our game, WonderKing, we jumped right in to inspect the features and put ourselves in the players’ shoes.
As predicted, we were overwhelmed by the number of users that participated. In fact, when the game first came out in Korea, our user population was so explosive that it made our Open Seed server crash! I definitely remember sleepless nights being very common those days. At one point, WonderKing was the most searched game title and the overall reaction from our users was very positive. With difficult and complicated games being the mainstream focus during that time, we broke away and worked on making an easy, comfortable, simple, and fun game for users. WonderKing was definitely a pioneer in refreshing the method of hunting monsters and resultantly gained the reputation of being a very creative game among users.

In his most recent blog update, MMORPG.com Spotlighted blogger cmagoun discusses the fact that, if the sum of something is good enough, people will overlook its problems. To do this, he cites the XBox 360 and MMOs.
Quote:
I am on my 4th XBox 360. Well, it might not literally be my 4th 360; I would have to check the serial numbers to see if the boxes were actually different or not, but this is the 4th time I will get an XBox into my home after a return or repair.

So... 3 hardware failures, more specifically 2 network port failures and, just so I didn't feel like a wierdo, a red ring of death. In total, I have spent over 6 hours on the support website and an estimated 18 or so hours on the phone with tech support. The most epic of those calls lasted over 2 hours and ended with me getting disconnected just before the tech authorized the repair, forcing me to repeat the whole call, and I mean the WHOLE call, including the "Is the cable plugged into the back of the console, Sir?" The second most epic call had the tech trying to convince me that the network connection really was working... hard to explain. I wish I would have taped that one.

Due to an error in my HTML, we are re-publishing Jason Chamberlain's 2029 article from yesterday. Turns out half of the page wasn't loading. Enjoy it again now in its full glory:
Quote:
You find yourself with amnesia on an alien planet called the 'Helen Continent'. Conflict is rampant; in-fighting between species has reached such a boiling point that global war has reached its post infancy stages and militant groups are forming. As each section of the planet fights for survival and dominance, you find yourself stuck in the middle of the conflict. Welcome home soldier.

I plan to begin this multi-part series on 2029, with a brief introduction of the various races and how they correspond to each skill tier. Over the course of these articles we will break down each race and its associated skills including the pros and cons regarding player-vs-player and player -vs-mob. It is important to get an idea of how you want to play your character as items to reset your skills are costly and you will not get a free 'Skill Reset Drum' until level 29. So let us begin with a brief overview of each race.:

WARNING: You will only be allowed one character per realm, so I would advise you to play around with each character class and find one you are comfortable with spending time developing.
